Blue Deserts

A desert made of water? Sounds impossible. Yet this is what Russian born oceanographer Michael Rozengurt predicted would happen at the world's coasts over 2 decades ago! And it's all because of dams. He tried to warn others but all but a handful of his fellow aquatic scientists and some ecologists and environmentalists listened. Find out more:

Dams are throwing the nutrient balance of the delicate estuary and coastal ecosystems of the ocean into a state of slow decay towards death;

oxygen levels are dropping dangerously

invasive species that can handle the colder saltier eutrophic waters are outcompeting the other animals and plants that people are used to having in coastal waters

other deletreious effects.
